G. Bruce Riggs

1-0n-1 Teacher Coaching™

Mr. Bruce Riggs is a highly experienced professional in Biomedical Technology, an Adjunct Professor, and a current high school teacher who is dedicated to inspiring students to pursue careers in the medical field. With over 25 years of experience in Biomedical Technology and a passion for teaching, he creates a dynamic and engaging classroom environment that motivates and challenges his students every day.

Mr. Riggs has received several prestigious awards, including 2025 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year Top 10 Finalist,  Masonic Fraternity of Oklahoma 2025 Teacher of the Year, and a nomination for the Oklahoma Medal of Excellence for Teaching. He has also earned a citation from the Oklahoma Senate for Excellence in Teaching and has been honored as a Master Adjunct Professor.

Mr. Riggs strives to create an interactive and stimulating classroom experience through hands-on activities. Through his Biomedical Innovations program, he provides students with opportunities to gain real-world experience in various medical fields, including nursing, research, and public health. Additionally, Mr. Riggs extends his impact beyond the classroom by regularly inviting industry professionals to present to his students, offering them a closer look at different medical professions and the requirements for success in those fields.

Mr. Riggs states, “Teaching is a contact sport.” He believes that teachers who employ high-impact pedagogical strategies can significantly enhance student learning. He places a strong emphasis on building relationships with students, establishing trust, and creating a challenging yet engaging classroom environment. His primary instructional approach is project-based learning, which allows students to explore future college and career pathways while also addressing their social and emotional developmental needs. Mr. Riggs incorporates real-world experiences to empower students with the skills they need to succeed in the workplace, college, military, and beyond.

He highlights the importance of transportable skills such as problem-solving, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity—skills that are in high demand, particularly in medical career pathways. To ensure his students are well-prepared, Mr. Riggs collects teaching resources that prioritize these skills. He utilizes primary strategies such as Project-Based Learning, Inquiry-Based Learning, and Differentiated Learning to maximize impact.

Mr. Riggs believes that teaching professionals must master skills in planning, communication, collaboration, adaptability, and listening, all of which lead to measurable results demonstrating excellence in lessons and activities. He emphasizes that teachers should engage their students and foster a culture of excellence within their classrooms, maintaining high expectations for performance and accountability for results. His focus is on achieving small wins every day, which create purpose and joy, ultimately resulting in outstanding outcomes.

He contributes to the strengthening and enhancement of the teaching profession by being an active team member within the professional learning community, building beneficial relationships outside the community for the benefit of his students, collaborating with other core teachers, and taking students on visits to medical schools, hospitals, and industries. His goal is to make a positive impact by continually fostering community relationships that benefit STEM programs and students.

Before his teaching career, Mr. Riggs served in the United States Air Force, where he gained valuable skills and experiences that later informed his teaching philosophy. As a clinical specialist, he worked with healthcare companies to develop new technologies aimed at improving health outcomes and patient experiences. During this time, he received his first opportunity to teach, an experience that greatly influenced his career path.
